Youku Tudou has announced the release of more than 20 new in-house productions, including a drama series based on hit movie franchise Tiny Times.

The content, spanning reality shows, talk shows and drama series, will be released throughout the second half of 2014.

The rollout of the new programming began earlier this month with reality show Searching Divas, which racked up more than 10 million views and 10,000 comments within the first two days of its debut on June 6.

Modeled on the popular Korean reality show Running Man, the show features contestants who compete against each other on challenging tasks and missions. Winners are able to meet their favourite Chinese celebrities.

The Tiny Times series, spun off from the two hit films about upwardly-mobile Chinese youth, will premiere on Youku in July and may later be syndicated on TV. The third movie in the franchise, Tiny Times 3, is scheduled for release in China on July 17.

Content also includes talk shows Logical Thinking, featuring readings and discussions, and Macroview, about financial issues. Midnight Taxi, a Tudou original drama series co-produced by the Japanese director of Shinya Shokudo, will also be released soon.

“Our customised content in the emerging online entertainment industry is vitally important to Youku Tudou’s continued leadership in the internet television space,” said Youku Tudou chief content officer Zhu Xiangyang. “To create a multi-screen, entertainment ecosystem is one of our most important strategic initiatives.”
