Pan-regional OTT service Viu and Thailand’s Workpoint Entertainment are co-producing Viu’s first Thai original, Hoh Family, which will be available in 16 markets from February 12.
Viu also has an agreement to stream more than 1,500 new drama and variety show episodes from Workpoint’s 2019 output.
The 15-episode Hoh Family revolves around four paternal half siblings from different parts of the world living under the same roof. The ‘Hoh’ of the series title refers to a popular curry dish in northern Thailand, comprising a variety of ingredients, symbolising characters of varying personalities co-existing in the same environment.
The series stars up-and-coming teen celebrities Gao Jirayu and Pan Pan, who are popular among Thailand’s millennial audience.
“The average daily video viewing time per Viu-er in Asia is 108 minutes, while Thai people spend an average of 243 minutes per day watching online videos,” said PCCW Media Group SVP of digital media Helen Sou.
“Thailand holds huge potential as one of Viu’s fastest-growing markets and requires premium content to suit viewer tastes.”
Workpoint Group COO Chalakorn Panyashom said: “We firmly believe Hoh Family will generate positive feedback from Viu and Workpoint viewers alike, as well as from internationally-dispersed fans who follow up-and-coming teen celebrities such as Gao Jirayu and Pan Pan.”
Chalakorn added that the series marks Workpoint’s first collaboration with a regional OTT platform. Launched in 1986, Workpoint ranks among Thailand’s top-five digital TV channels.
