Pan-regional OTT streaming service Viu has signed content partnerships with Thailand’s GMM Grammy and Singapore’s Mediacorp.
Viu will offer content from GMM Grammy’s One31 Channel, within two hours of its broadcast in Thailand, to its viewers in Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Singapore. In addition, 290 hours of content from GMM Grammy’s GMM25 channel will be available to all viewers in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Titles from One31 Channel include Crowns Of Grass, The Passbook and The Venom’s Tale, while GMM25 titles include The Mistress, Love Revenge and Club Friday The Series 11.
“After our success with Korean content across the region, we see Thai content as the next regional content wave in Southeast Asia,” said Viu chief content officer Virginia Lim. “With the GMM partnership, we are glad to provide another popular genre of quality content on our strong platform which serves millions of digital audiences across the region.”
The deal with Mediacorp covers more than 600 hours of curated Mediacorp content, spanning scripted and factual, including recent Chinese romcom My One In A Million, social issue-focused drama A World Of Difference and psychodramas Doppelganger and The Driver. English-language content covered by the deal includes award-winning drama Faculty, two seasons of tech-driven thriller Zero Calling and food-themed show Food Heroes.
The Mediacorp content will be available to viewers throughout Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
Mediacorp chief content officer Doreen Neo said: “Partnering with Viu will extend the reach and recognition of our content to a wider regional audience, and attests to the universal appeal and storytelling strength of Mediacorp productions.”
Operated by Hong Kong-based telco PCCW, Viu reports that it currently has more than 41 million monthly active users (MAU).
