Hong Kong-based pan-regional streaming platform Viu has unveiled a slate of eight new original productions, across Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and the Middle East. The slate includes:
Till Death Do Us Part (Hong Kong) – starring Sheren Tang as an art dealer dealing with the suspected infidelity of her artist husband.
The Gutter (Hong Kong) – a food-themed romantic drama starring Hanjin Tan, Michelle Wai and Catherine Chau.
Psycho Detective 2 (Hong Kong) – a detective drama revolving around a Taoist master, starring Adam Cheng and Michael Tao.
Rewrite (Indonesia) – time travelling drama featuring social media star Maxime Bouttier.
Baha Don (Malaysia) – starring Remy Ishak as a chef who discovers his father was a mobster when he returns home for his funeral. Produced by Anomalous Films and directed by Kye Syed Fariz.
Kopitiam (Malaysia) – reboot of the popular Malaysian sitcom of the same name, directed by Douglas Lim and produced by Double Vision’s Min Lim.
The Grill (India) – a series about the misadventures of an engineering college fresher.
The Zodiac (Middle East) – crime thriller based on the novel series Hazak El Youm by the late author Dr. Ahmed Khalid Tawfiq.
Previous Viu originals have included a Singapore-Malaysian version of Scandinavian drama The Bridge, travel show No Sleep No FOMO (Singapore), The Publicist (Indonesia) and 4Freaks 4Fam (Thailand).
Viu has also produced two web series, Halustik and Knock Out Girl, through its Viu Pitching Forum – an annual event aimed at helping upcoming Indonesian filmmakers find distribution for their work. The winner of the 2019 Viu Pitching Forum, Star Stealer, will start production soon.
