Palestinian Drama ‘All That’s Left Of You’ Awarded Best Film At MIFFEST

All That’s Left Of You, written and directed by Palestinian-American filmmaker Cherien Dabis, was awarded with Best Film and Best Screenplay at this year’s Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST, July 19-27).
 
Starring Dabis and Saleh Bakri, the film follows a Palestinian family through three generations with their history traced back to the 1948 Nakba, the forced displacement of Palestinian Arabs during the formation of the State of Israel.
 
Also starring Adam Bakri, Mohammad Bakri, Maria Zreik and Muhammad Abed Elrahman, the film was initially set to shoot in Palestine but the Gaza War forced the production to relocate to Cyprus and Greece. It premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
 
Red Path, directed by Tunisia’s Lotfi Achour, also won two awards at the festival – Best Director and the New Hope Award. The film about two young boys who run into Jihadist terrorists in the Tunisian mountains also recently won the top prize at Jordan’s Amman International Film Festival.
 
Best Actor went to Mahmood Bakri Chatila for his role in Mahdi Fleifel’s To A Land Unknown, about Palestinian refugees living on the fringes of society in Athens. (See full list of winners below).
 
Also at this year’s edition of MIFFEST, Hong Kong actor Ti Lung, known for his iconic roles in both classic martial arts and dramatic films, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
 
MIFFEST also hosted the ASEAN Film & TV Summit 2025, which featured a series of panel discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration within the Southeast Asian film industries. Discussions focused on how ASEAN film agencies can work together, how producers can bring local stories to international platforms and an examination of the role of immersive technologies in Southeast Asian filmmaking.
