Netflix has reshuffled its creative production team in Asia Pacific with South Korean executive Minyoung Kim expanding her remit to oversee operations for the whole region, excluding India.
Kim was formerly vice president of content for Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand where she expanded Netflix’s remit to invest $500m in Korean TV series and films in 2021. Asia Pacific is the streamer’s second-largest territory in terms of paid subscription growth.
Since joining Netflix in 2016, Kim has overseen production of hit series such as Kingdom, Extracurricular and Sweet Home and films including Space Sweepers, Night In Paradise and Time To Hunt.
At the same time, Netflix has promoted Don Kang to vice president of Korean content. Kang joined Netflix in 2018 and worked on growing the streamer’s partnerships with local studios such as CJ ENM’s Studio Dragon.
Netflix has also named Kaata Sakamoto as vice president of content for Japan, where he will take on anime production in addition to his current remit of live-action production. Among other appointments, Malobika Banerji is now head of Southeast Asia content; Yongyoot Thongkongtoon is head of Thailand content; and Que Minh Luu is heading up programming in Australia and New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Netflix also announced that Srishti Behl Arya is stepping down from her role as director, International Original Film, in India. Since joining the streamer in 2018, Behl Arya has overseen a slate of more than 35 original films, including Guilty, AK vs AK, Bulbbul and Serious Men, as well as Tamil and Telugu films Paava Kadhaigal and Pitta Kathalu.
Netflix said film continues to be a focus and priority investment for the Indian content team, which continues to be headed by vice president of India content, Monika Shergill.
