Netflix has announced that its Chinese-language series Meteor Garden 2018, which was launched across several Asia Pacific markets on July 13, will be rolled out globally from July 27.
South Korea will receive the first 14 episodes of the series on July 27, while the first 6 episodes will be available in Japan on August 2.
The first episode will be available in Denmark and Sweden on August 15 and in Arabic-speaking regions on September 4. All other regions will have access to the first episode on August 9.
Meteor Garden 2018 is scripted, directed and produced by leading Taiwanese producer Angie Chai, based on her hit 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, which was itself a remake of hit Japanese show Boys Over Flowers.
The stars of the original Taiwanese series – Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu and Vic Chou – went on to form boy band F4 and became huge stars across Asia.
The 2018 version of the show stars new members of the band. The four male leads are played by Dylan Wang (Daoming Si), Darren Chen (Huaze Lei), Connor Leong (Mei Zuo) and Caesar Wu (Ximen Yan), while female cast includes Shen Yue (Shancai) and Dee Hsu (Daoming Zhuang). Amber Kuo and Harlem Yu make special appearances.
Angie Chai and her producing partner Adam Tsuei have also produced several hit movies, including Giddens Ko’s You Are The Apple Of My Eye.
