Malaysian SVOD service dimsum signed content licensing deals with five Asian broadcasters, including China’s CITVC and Shanghai Wings Media, at this week’s Hong Kong Filmart.
Launched in November 2016, dimsum is owned by Malaysia’s SMG Entertainment (formerly Star Online). The platform also signed deals with Japan’s TV Asahi, Hong Kong’s MediaQuiz and Singapore’s MediaCorp.
The agreement with CITVC covers more than 800 hours of content, including exclusive rights to big-budget fantasy drama series Tribes And Empires: Storm Of Prophecy (pictured).
Meanwhile, Shanghai Wings Media, owed by Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group, will become the first partner to launch a branded VOD channel on dimsum, streaming SMG’s variety and simulcast titles.
Dimsum has also struck a deal with Japan’s TV Asahi, covering titles such as medical drama Doctor-X, marking the first time that Japanese content will be streamed on a Malaysian OTT platform simultaneously with its broadcast in Japan.
The deal with MediaQuiz provides dimsum with a wide selection of popular Thai and Chinese shows, including Chibi Maruko Chan, Princess Hours and Love & Lies, which are gaining popularity across Asia.
By striking a content deal with MediaCorp, dimsum has exclusive and premier titles from its broadcast library, as well as simulcast shows from MediaCorp’s OTT platform Toggle, such as Patisserie Fighting.
“Our partnerships with these top broadcasters will provide access to great Asian content, of which some of them are exclusively available on dimsum,” said dimsum chief marketing officer Lam Swee Kim, adding that the content will be subtitled in three languages.
