Lionsgate and US Hispanic cable network Hemisphere Media have launched a Spanish-language streaming service Pantaya.

The service will stream new and classic Spanish-language films, documentaries and concerts. Some of the content will be provided by Spanish-language film studio Pantelion, which is partly owned by Lionsgate, and will add films to the service day-and-date with their Latin America theatrical release.

Pantelion’s library includes Spanish-language hits such as Instructions Not Included (pictured), No Manches Frida and classic titles with stars including Pedro Infante, Maria Felix and Jorge Negrete.

Subscribers will also have exclusive early access to recent releases including animated feature Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos, comedy Ladrones and musical comedy ¿Que Le Dijiste a Dios?, along with Dominican Republic hit Domirriqueños and the latest installment of Colombian franchise El Paseo.

Lionsgate, which owns streaming rights to more than 16,000 films, will contribute classic English-language films dubbed into Spanish such as Dirty Dancing and Crank.

The service costs $5.99 a month and will be available in the US on iOS, Android, Roku apps, web and as one of Amazon Prime’s new Amazon Channels. It will be overseen by Pantelion CEO Paul Presburger and COO Edward Allen.

Pantaya is the third streaming service Lionsgate has collaborated on over the past year, following Comic-Con HQ, which launched last year, and Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud, which launches this month.

“Pantaya is user friendly, accessible and will provide Hispanic movie lovers in the US an entirely new way to watch movies and connect with their cultures,” said Hemisphere CEO Alan Sokol.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said: “This platform is the next logical step in Lionsgate’s track record of serving the Hispanic consumer with high-end premium content through our Pantelion Films venture with Televisa. By drawing upon the blockbuster films, vast libraries and world-class programming resources of its partners, Pantaya is positioned to become a compelling value proposition for Spanish-language and bilingual audiences across the country.”
