Chinese streaming giant iQiyi has launched animated hit feature Nezha exclusively across nine Southeast Asian countries through the international version of its app.
From April 5, VIP subscribers of iQiyi in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei and Cambodia will be able to stream the film with high-definition Dolby sound and subtitles in six languages.
The directorial debut of Chinese filmmaker Yang Yu, Nezha is based on a popular figure in a famous Chinese novel, The Investiture Of The Gods (Fengshen Yanyi), the rebellious son of an army commander who fights the Dragon King and reverses his own fate.
Produced by Enlight Coloroom Pictures, the film was released in China last summer and grossed $704m (RMB5bn), making it the second highest grossing film ever in China behind Wolf Warrior 2. Since launching on iQiyi in China, Nezha has been among the top ten most played movies on the platform with an average viewer rating of 9 out of 10.
