Indian streaming platform Spuul and content distributor Shemaroo Entertainment have signed a deal to share their respective catalogues.
The two partners already work closely together, but the deal expands the library of content available on Spuul, adding movies including Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, The Dirty Picture, Black, Amar Akbar Anthony and Don.
Based in Singapore, Spuul is an advertising video-on-demand (AVOD) platform, which claims around 12 million users across India, Pakistan, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. It also offers a subscription service for $4.99 a month or $0.99 for every movie streamed.
Spuul was launched in 2010 by tech and entertainment industry entrepreneurs including Sudesh Iyer, who co-founded Sony Entertaiment TV (SET), and S. Mohan, who founded tech companies such as Accellion and buUuk.
Shemaroo is a decades-old Bollywood home entertainment distributor that is in the process of transforming itself into a digital player.
Jai Maroo, Shemaroo Entertainment director, said: “We have already been working with Spuul to make our content available through their platform and have seen them grow over the past couple of years. We are glad to be able to work with them and grow this even further.”
