Iflix launches edgy Malaysian comedy show

Pan-regional streaming service iflix has launched an edgy Malaysian comedy series, Oi! Jaga Mulut (Watch Your Mouth), hosted by local comedian Haniff Hamzah.

New episodes of the seven-part show will be released weekly every Monday exclusively on iflix. The show will feature new and established comedians such as Joanne Kam, Papi Zak, Rayza Mukmin and Jon Atherton in a series of stand-up routines and improvised games.

If iflix press materials are to be believed, the new show might push boundaries in Malaysia, a notoriously strict market for film and TV censorship. The pan-Asian streamer describes the humour in the series as “edgy, near-the-knuckle and sometimes, downright rude”.

“Our first original production, Oi! Jaga Mulut, underlines iflix’s ambition to lead an entertainment revolution in emerging markets,” said iflix global director of Original Commissioning, Mark Francis.

“Stand-up is still very young in this part of the world, but it’s a great way to localise our content offering because we’re doing it through the unique voices of local talent who want to push the envelope, too.”

iflix has also commissioned the series in the Philippines and Indonesia. In the Philippines, where its known as Huy! Bibig Mo, the show is hosted by Ramon Bautista. In Indonesia, its called Oi! Jaga Lambe and hosted by Ananda Omesh.
