Pan-regional streaming service iflix has commissioned its first Malaysian drama series, KL Gangster: Underworld, a spin-off of Skop Productions’ hugely popular KL Gangster movie franchise.

The six-part drama will be directed by Syafiq Yusof (Abang Long Fadil 1 & 2) and Faisal Ishak (Juvana) form a script by Nazri Vovinski Annuar.

Produced by Datuk Yusof Haslam and Syamin Yusof, KL Gangster: Underworld will shoot entirely in Malaysia and is scheduled to stream exclusively on the iflix platform globally in mid-2018.

In addition to the KL Gangster franchise (pictured), Skop Productions has credits including Munafik and Abang Long Fadil.

Mark Francis, iflix global director of original programming, said: “It is our aim to offer iflix viewers a new breed of local drama whilst pushing creative boundaries through our originals. The KL Gangster films set up the perfect foundation for the series to launch from, with fresh twists and surprises for both fans and newcomers alike.”

Skop Productions group chairman and CEO, Datuk Yusof Haslam, said: “We are proud to have this opportunity to collaborate with iflix in creating quality local content such as KL Gangster: Underworld, iflix’s first drama series in Malaysia.
