Hulu is set to bring hundreds of episodes of telenovelas, Pedro Almodovar films and other Spanish-language programming to US viewers through two new streaming pacts with Telemundo and Sony Pictures Television.

The deal with Sony covers nine Almodovar titles, including The Skin I Live In, Woman On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown and All About My Mother, along with other Spanish-language films such as El Mariachi and The Secret In Their Eyes.

Hulu has also licensed popular Sony telenovelas and teleseries including Lady, La Vendendora de Rosas and Doña Barbara, as well as comedy series Los Beltran and crime dramas El Mariachi, Metastasis and En la Boca del Lobo.

The deal with NBCUniversal-owned Telemundo includes five popular Spanish-language series, starting with all past episodes of La Reina del Sur, Celia and Bajo El Mismo Cielo, which are already streaming on Hulu. Two further series, Tierra de Reyes and La Patrona, will debut on April 15.

Hulu acquired the Telemundo product through NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution group.

Hulu is owned by NBCUniversal, Disney and Fox, which each hold a 30% stake in the streaming service, while Time Warner owns the remaining 10%.

The platform is planning to launch a live TV service, priced at less than $40 a month, joining competitors such as Dish Network’s Sling TV, AT&T’s DirecTV and Sony PlayStation’s Vue. YouTube is also planning to launch a live TV service in coming months.
