Singapore-based regional streamer HOOQ has signed a content sales deal with UK-based TV distributor All3Media International, which will handle sales of HOOQ originals internationally.
The deal includes all HOOQ originals, unless the rights are retained by the production company or by HOOQ.
Launched in 2015, HOOQ is a joint venture between Sony Pictures Television, Warner Bros and Singapore telco Singtel. The platform has commissioned 63 shows since its launch and plans to deliver 100 by June 2020.
Among the shows that All3Media will represent are Indonesian crime thriller Brata (pictured), starring Oka Antara as a detective with a photographic memory; Singapore-set comedy She’s A Terrorist & I Love Her; Thai drama Someone, which follows seven groups of people living in an apartment complex by the river; and factual shorts series Sex Talks with Dr. Holmes, produced by Ninjadog Studios in the Philippines.
“Forming key collaborations with dynamic partners such as HOOQ, which is actively investing in developing internationally appealing original projects, is a vital part of our ongoing growth strategy, not only in Asia but around the world,” said All3Media executive vice president of content Maartje Horchner.
“From January through November 2019 alone, the majority of HOOQ’s total playing minutes come from SEA content,” said HOOQ chief content officer Jennifer Batty. “These consumption habits drive our decision to focus on bringing HOOQ to millions of Asians through strong partnerships, such as the one with All3media International.”
