HBO Asia is reteaming with Taiwan’s DaMou Entertainment, with which it produced award-winning series The World Between Us, on a new original Chinese-language series, Workers.

Based on a best-selling novel of the same name, Workers stars Golden Bell-winning actor Christopher Lee (A Good Wife),  Alex Ko (Back To The Good Times), Yu An-Shun (A Taiwanese Tale Of Two Cities), Miao Ke-Li (The Jewelry Box) and Hsueh Shih-Ling (Single Ladies Senior).

The 6×60-minutes series follows a group of construction workers who resort to countless outrageous get-rich-quick schemes only to make fools out of themselves.

HBO Asia and DaMou are producing in association with Kbro Media and HIM International Music. The series is directed by Cheng Fen-Fen  (Go Brother!) and written by Hong Zi-Ying (On Children) and Cheng Fen-Fen.

The World Between Us, about the aftermath of a fictional mass shooting in Taiwan, won six awards at Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards.

“With 20 HBO Asia Original productions to date, WarnerMedia is ramping up its investment in distinctive locally relevant content this year,” said Clement Schwebig, managing director of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks, Southeast Asia, Pacific and China, which operates HBO in Asia.

“Our past Taiwanese original productions, from The Teenage Psychic to The World Between Us, have not only scored critical acclaim internationally but also won the hearts of fans across the region and beyond.”

Workers premieres on HBO Asia on May 10 with two back-to-back episodes, followed by one new episode at the same time weekly.
