HBO Asia has started production on a second season of its award-winning Chinese-language original The Teenage Psychic.

Filmed entirely in Taiwan, the second season stars Kuo Shu-Yao reprising her role as Xiao Zhen, alongside new cast members including Wen Chen-Ling (The Last Verse) and Fandy Fan (HIStory).

The first season (pictured) told the story of a teenager who has to juggle the pressures of normal teenage life – first love, academic success and peer pressure – with her ability to see spirits. The series won best mini-series (TV Movie) and best supporting actress in a mini-series for Nana Lee at Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards in 2017.

The second season will be directed by up-and-coming talent Liu Yan-Fu (Life List), with Chen Ho-Yu, director of the first season, as executive producer. It is scheduled to premiere in 2019 and will be available across Asia on HBO, HBO GO and HBO On Demand.

HBO Asia CEO Jonathan Spink said: “We are delighted that the first season of The Teenage Psychic was well-received in the region and even received the prestigious recognition at the Golden Bell Awards in Taiwan. It was an obvious decision for us to renew the series for a second season.”
