Wong Chun’s Mad World (Hong Kong), Dain Said’s Interchange (Malaysia) and Vijay Jayapal’s Revelations (India) are among the 16 films screening in competition at this year’s Osaka Asian Film Festival (March 3-12).
The competition line-up, which are all films so far unreleased in Japan, will be eligible for the Grand Prix and Most Promising Talent Award, to be selected by an international jury. Titles have also been selected from Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Korea, China, Macau and Japan (see full list below).
As previously announced, Malaysian filmmaker Ho Yuhang’s Mrs K will open the festival, while the world premiere of Parks, from Japan’s Seta Natsuki, will close the event.
The Special Screenings section will showcase seven films, including Taiwanese filmmaker Wei Te-sheng’s 52HZ, I Love You; Huang Yin-yu’s Taiwan-Japan co-production After Spring, The Tamaki Family; and Bhutanese filmmaker Khyentse Norbu’s Hema Hema: Sing Me A Song While I Wait.
The festival’s special programmes include “In And Out Of Work”, which will screen six films that explore Asian societies and people through their labours; “New Action! Southeast Asia”, featuring 11 Southeast Asian films spanning arthouse to action; and “Indie Forum”, presenting 12 films from new Japanese directors.
The line-up also includes a “Special Foucs on Hong Kong”, which will feature the world premiere of Fire Lee’s Husband Killers, as well as showcase five titles that are also selected for competition. For more information on the festival click here: http://www.oaff.jp/2017/en/index.html
