Disney+ Hotstar has commissioned three seasons of kids animated series Selfie With Bajrangi from Indian animation studio Cosmos-Maya.
Cosmos-Maya will produce a total of 234 episodes across the three 78×11-minute series, which will be aired in India’s three main languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
The series has been running in primetime slots on Disney India’s Disney Channel and Disney Hungama since 2018. It also recently became the first Indian animated kids’ series to be aired on a leading general entertainment channel via Star Plus.
“This is the first highly popular kids’ domestic series that [Disney] has onboarded with a two-year vision to further increase its popularity,” said Cosmos-Maya CEO Anish Mehta. “Selfie With Bajrangi has the ability to speak to audiences with its novel, yet relatable storytelling. It brings to the fore a very important message: that friendships built in the face of adversity last a lifetime.”
The show follows protagonist Ankush’s life changes when he meets Bajrangi, the nine-year-old child version of the Indian God Hanuman in a contemporary setting, who no one but Ankush can see.
Founded by Indian filmmakers Ketan Mehta and Deepa Sahi, Cosmos-Maya is a Singapore and India-based animation company that produces high quality 2D and 3D animated content. KKR-backed Emerald Media acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2018.
Cosmos-Maya is also working on feature-length animated film Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds.
