China’s Tencent Pictures is teaming with Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin’s production banner Free Association to produce a film adaptation of Tencent digital comic Zombie Brother.
David Sandberg is attached to direct from a script written by Matt Lieberman.
Sandberg previously directed 2015 crowd-funded short Kung Fury, which screened at Cannes, and is developing a feature-length version. Lieberman’s writing credits including Warner Bros’ upcoming animated movie Scoob, based on the Scooby-Doo animated series.
Zombie Brother, the top title on Tencent’s digital comics platform, has already been adapted as an animated series and stage play in China.
Tencent Pictures, the production arm of Chinese internet giant Tencent, is working with both Chinese and international partners to produce content based on its vast library of IP.
“This material has already attracted an incredibly loyal fan base in China, and we are delighted to be working alongside Free Association in bringing this beloved IP to a global audience,” said Tencent Pictures CEO Edward Cheng.
Tatum, Carolin and Peter Kiernan will produce the adaptation, with Michael Parets overseeing for Free Association. Cheng, Howard Chen and Conor Zorn will produce for Tencent Pictures.
