Suresh Triveni’s Jalsa, a drama thriller starring Shefali Shah and Vidya Balan, will premere globally on Amazon Prime Video on March 18.
The film marks the seventh collaboration between Amazon and Mumbai-based production company Abundantia Entertainment, which has worked with the streamer on films including Shakuntala Devi, Sherni, Chhorii, Durgamati and Ram Setu, as well as the Amazon original series Breathe.
Jointly produced by Abundantia and T-Series, Jalsa is described as “a highly-engaging and captivating tale of conflict, as shown through the life of a top-line journalist and her cook.”
Shah previously starred in Netflix series Delhi Crime, which won an Emmy for best drama series in 2020. Balan is one of India’s biggest actresses with credits including thriller Kahaani and its sequel, and more recently Sherni and Shakuntala Devi, a biopic of the eponymous maths genius.
Triveni, who previously worked with Balan on Tumhari Sulu (2017), is also a producer on Jalsa along with Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar for T-Series and Vikram Malhotra and Shikhaa Sharma for Abundantia Entertainment. The cast also includes Manav Kaul, Rohini Hattangadi, Iqbal Khan, Vidhatri Bandi, Shrikant Mohan Yadav, Shafeen Patel and Surya Kasibhatla.
