Amazon Prime Video has extended its content licensing deal with US producer-distributor A24, giving the streaming platform exclusive SVOD rights to multiple Oscar winner Moonlight.
Moonlight, which won three Oscars including best picture, will be available for Amazon Prime members to stream at no additional cost from May 21. However, the deal only covers Amazon Prime members in the US.
The deal also includes A24 titles such as Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women, starring Annette Bening and Elle Fanning; American Honey, starring Sasha Lane and Shia LaBeouf; Free Fire, starring Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer; and David Lowery’s A Ghost Story, starring Casey Affleck.
A24 library titles under the deal include previous Oscar winners Room, which won best actress for Brie Larson’s performance in 2016, and Asif Kapadia’s documentary Amy, about the late British singer Amy Winehouse, which won best documentary in the same year.
Amazon Prime Video is also streaming Oscar-winning titles acquired from other producers such as Manchester By The Sea, which it picked up at Sundance last year, and Asghar Farhadi’s best foreign-language Oscar winner The Salesman.
In China, A24 has sold Moonlight’s exclusive streaming rights to iQiyi, although neither company would comment on whether the film will be cut for its China online release. Beijing-based iQiyi also has rights to multiple Oscar winner La La Land, through its ongoing deal with Lionsgate, and The Salesman.
